Setting up Outlook Express for your Mike’s Technology Group PC. Update your current setting with new security settings.- see the important check box on step 11. Let's get started! 1. To set up an account in Outlook Express, double-click on Outlook Express in order to launch the program. If this is the first time you are running Outlook Express, the wizard screen may appear automatically. If not, go to the Tools menu, select Accounts and then on the screen that appears, select Add->Mail to start the wizard. 2. Type in the name you'd like to appear on e-mails you send and click Next.
3. The following screen will appear. Type in your full e-mail address (ending in mikes.net). Click Next.
4. If you are configuring your Mike’s Technology Group PC: Type in the server names as shown below (pop3.mikes.net and smtp.mikes.net). Click Next.
5. The following screen will most likely fill in the first field with your user name (i.e. "username" in the example). Make sure to type in your FULL e-mail address here (including the @mikes.net). Type in your case-sensitive password, exactly as you typed it on the Mike’s Technology Group account setup page. Remember Password should be selected for convenience, unless you want it to prompt you every time you check mail. Click Next.
6. The Congratulations screen will appear. Click Finish.
7.
After you click finish, Click on Tools.
8.
Click on Accounts
9.
Click on the Mail tab
10.
Highlight the mail account you just created and click on Properties.
12.
Put a check in the box next to My server requires authentication 13.
Click on OK 14
Click on Close Testing whether or not your E-mail Program is set up properly: 1. Go to the main Outlook Express window, click the Send/Recv icon, you should see the program attempt to connect to the mail server and retrieve your mail. You will normally have at least one message, your "welcome message". You can also click New Mail to send a test message to someone. After sending the message, wait a minute or two, then click Send/Recv again to check for any new messages. If you haven't received any reply saying the message was rejected, it was most likely sent without problems. If the message "bounces" (you receive an automatic reply that it could not be delivered) you may want to check the account setup again. Make sure the server names, user name and password are correct. 2. Set up and test any other accounts in a similar manner. If you have several computers (see our "Home Networking Issues" guide), Outlook Express may be run on any of these computers using these setup instructions, and you may setup certain accounts on one computer, and different accounts on another, so long as they are all communicating through the Mike’s Technology Group PC as their "gateway". |
